I only started using the CNC machine's about 4 or 5 years ago. My first few files and cuts were created with the help of john and jay richardson of Surfboards Makaha, and like most shapers, I was immediately drawn to the reliability and consistency that the machine cuts were allowing- especially for making HP shortboards.
I've been trying to set a side a day each week to focus on getting back to the basics of hand-shaping. The first few were really stressful, just getting the kinks worked out- now its my favorite production day.
